Announcement

In the ancient days before the Ancestors kept the stories, the People of the Frozen Earth lived in the vast wasteland that is now called Siberia. Seeking a better life, they moved south across the land bridge into a New World, traveling through what are today Alaska and Canada. Just under two thousand years ago, this semi-nomadic People settled in the basin between the foothills at the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains and the flat tableland of the Western Great Plains in the area now known as Wyoming, Montana, and the Dakotas. Strong and proud, they lived, loved, hated, laughed, cried, and died in the fullness of Mother Life’s time.

Eight Things about Grace Anne

David Bowles at Writing the Westward Sagas tagged me to share eight things about myself and my writers that others probably don’t know.

1. I cannot remember a time when I didn’t “write” stories even before I could really write. I’d scribble and tell my grandmother, Nannie, what I had written down.

2. My mother has often said I had to become either a writer or a politician because I always see and remember things differently than others.

3. Writing is fun and easy when I listen to my characters and let them tell me what it is they are planning to do. Like children, they don’t always cooperate when I try to tell them what it is that they need to be doing.

4. I love to write and enjoy it very much except when hate it and, as I believe it was Ernest Hemingway who said, sometimes writing is like sitting at the typewriter bleeding - those are the times I hate it (usually when I am trying to get the characters to do something they really don’t want to do).

5. Although I love my office, I find I write better and more in a small cluttered space.

6. I love writing because in my world, I can make things wonderful or awful. I can kill people, but if I have made a mistake I can bring them back to life with a few well-placed words.

7. I’m still old-fashioned. I enjoy writing with a well-sharpened wooden pencil. But I’m also modern. I love, love, LOVE writing on the computer (except when the carpal tunnel is giving me fits).

8. Writing and meeting writers has reassured me of my sanity. There are people out there just like me who not only hear voices in their heads, they answer them and make money doing it. I’m so glad I’m not alone!!!!!

Although I’m not going to tag anyone because I think everyone I know has already been tagged, I invite any of my readers to participate. Just leave me a comment to let me know when you’ve posted.

Radio Interview

radioI had a great interview with Mark Carbonaro on KION-AM 1460 in Monterey, CA recently. Mark graciously sent me a recording of the interview with permission to post it here. Hope you enjoy listening to the interview as much as I enjoyed doing it.

Update and a Fan Letter

We had a wonderful trip and came home just in time to start a round of radio interviews. I’ll tell you more about the trip and the interviews later.

In the meantime, though, I’m eager to share a letter from a reader. This is a real handwritten letter that came in postal mail. I was so thrilled with the reader’s words I asked for permission to quote the letter and received approval to quote her using her first name and location. Nancy in Indiana wrote:

I met you at the Columbia City, Indiana, Pow Wow. That’s the first time they’ve had an author and her works there. I am so glad you were there! I was most impressed that 10% of your sales goes to the Pine Ridge – how kind of you to do that. Your stories are so well written and chock full of morals, plant information, healings, techniques, good versus evil. I couldn’t put them down! Now I’ll reread them time and time again – to glean out more info. I plan on sharing them with my oldest daughter – we send books back and forth to each other. A good time for each of us although we’re thousands of miles apart.

Thank you, Nancy. I’m so glad you enjoyed my stories.

Traveling and Radio Interviews

Ken and I are leaving for Indiana tomorrow. We plan to stop in at some bookstores and attend some pow-wows on our trip. We’ll begin at the Miami Nation pow wow on August 11th.

As soon as we return, I start a series of radio appearances to talk about As Shadows Fall. Hope you’ll tune in and listen if you have the chance.

Sharing and Selling Books

GraceAnne Regalia NewDayPoster2I love talking about my books any chance I get. Recently I spoke to an enthusiastic group of readers at the library in Lago Vista, Texas.

I’d love to speak to your book club, organization, or school. Contact me to schedule an appearance. Even though we live in central Texas, I love to travel … so let me know you’re interested no matter where you are.

My husband Ken likes to talk about my books, too. He has a large sign on his SUV: People of the Frozen Earth. He takes advantage of the curiosity the sign engenders and is always prepared for questions. If someone asks what People of the Frozen Earth means, he tells them about my books. If they express interest in reading the books, he lets them know he has copies in the car! In the last few days, he’s sold books in the Wal-Mart parking lot, at a senior citizen’s center … and at church.
